Cheryl

I’ve been an art educator, professional craftsman, and since retiring in June of 2019, am finally able to devote full-time to being a Fiber Artist. I’m encouraged by winning Best in Show for the On My Own Time exhibit at the Syracuse City School District for 2018 and 2019. This led to the 45th and 46th, On My Own Time exhibit at the Everson Museum of Art.

I’ve also been involved in Performance Art with the City Mediation Crew in; Art in Odd Places, New York, NY; Artparks, Seattle, Washington; Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY; and The Sitting Still Video Project at the Everson Museum of Art

For the last 24 years, I have worked for the Syracuse City School District as a Visual Art and Media Communications Teacher. I taught high school classes in Studio in Art, Introduction to Media Communications, Digital Multimedia, Advanced Digital Multimedia and Digital Design for College Credit Art History for college credit, 2-D and 3-D Advanced Art classes. During that period, I wrote and administered a $17,000 grant for a yearlong community art project from the Everson Museum of Art and the New York State Council for the Arts, collaborating with Ann Clark from Syracuse University as resident artist. I participated in community art exhibitions with my students winning numerous awards including first place in the Everson Student Art Open. I edited and published the school Art and Literary Magazine.

Before teaching, I was a Fiber Artist and Professional Craftsperson designing, producing, exhibiting, and marketing fiber art in the North East area. My specialties were creating and weaving two-dimensional and three-dimensional fiber art using on-loom and off-loom techniques. I won a variety of awards during this period. I was art educated at Buffalo State University and received my Master’s in Art Education at Syracuse University.

The Two of Us

We’ve been married since 1992, lucky to have in common, love for our family connections, nature, art, and travel. We frequently visit the Adirondacks with our family and every art museum and event possible. Before Cheryl’s retirement we took one big trip every year enjoying the art and cultural attractions. We were saving the top destination for after retirement. Japan. Cheryl visited Japan alone in November 2001 on a teacher Fulbright scholarship. She had wonderful memories and wanted to go again with Paul. Paul had family connections and a lifetime love of Japanese wood-block prints and ceramics. Both have influenced his life’s work.

So the first priority on the bucket list was a trip to Japan. What happened next changed our lives forever!

Little did we know the rest of the world changed too!

Paul

Paul Molesky is a studio potter living and working on his seven acres of land in Syracuse, NY. He sells his functional ceramics at Fine Arts and Crafts shows and in select galleries in and around New York State. Art educated at Kansas City Art Institute, with a Master’s of Fine Art from Tulane University, Paul has been throwing pots and teaching about pots for forty years. He built his fast fire wood kiln in 1995 because of his passion for the rare and wonderful effects of fire and wood. Not many potters produce functional ware in this ancient and venerable tradition, but for Paul the beautiful results are worth the process. Paul has taught ceramics at various colleges in New York.
